West of downtown, the Nations is one of Nashville’s fastest-growing neighborhoods and a budding dining and entertainment hub. The Nations’ surge was accelerated by the colossal Nashville flood of 2010, which hit this neighborhood particularly hard but also spurred developer interest as warehouses were abandoned and flooded homes were demolished.
The neighborhood’s industrial feel has been eroded by modern, mixed-use development and “tall skinnies,” the local pejorative for square-foot-maximizing multiunit buildings that replaced modest one-stories. On the plus side, an influx of energetic young professionals has transformed the once overlooked neighborhood into a bustling, walkable hot spot, with enough grit remaining to counterbalance social-media-geared frivolity.
